We all have questions about weight loss, so I’ve tried to answer some of them here. If you have any other questions, you can contact me here.
- How soon after I’ve had my baby can I go on a pregnancy weight loss diet?
Most doctors recommend that you don’t start dieting until you are finished breastfeeding. This is because your body needs all the nutrients it can get to produce a steady flow of healthy milk and sustain your body at the same time. Discuss your weight loss program with your doctor before you start it to make sure. - How do I know which diet for weight loss will work?
The biggest influence on your weight loss success is you. You will have to change your eating habits and physical activity, and keep at it, no-one else can do that for you. A good weight loss program will help you eat the right foods, do the right exercise, and make it pleasant to do so! Fad diets that ask you to eat grapefruit for weeks on end not only make ridiculous demands on your self discipline, they’re not healthy for you. - Why is exercise so often a part of a pregnancy weight loss diet?
Exercise is important for your health, whether you need to lose weight or not. In weight loss terms, exercise helps to boost your metabolism and burn calories. Exercise alone won’t work, because it takes huge amounts of exercise to burn off a few calories, so you’ve got to eat right too. Exercise also helps you maintain your new weight, and tones your muscles so your new, slimmer body looks good. - How do I choose the right post pregnancy weight loss plan?
There are a number of factors to consider when you are choosing a weight loss plan. I talk about some of them in a blog post I wrote – you can read it here. In my review of Strip That Fat, I explain why I chose that program instead of others on the market. - How do I work out how much weight I need to lose?
In my case, I had avoided the scale since half way through my pregnancy, so I judged by how my clothes fitted. This is not advisable – I now have more pants that are too big than that fit me. There are charts online that will calculate an ideal weight range based on your age, gender and height, or you can consult a healthcare professional.
- Your daughter’s 10 years old – how can you call that post-pregnancy weight loss?
My weight gain was a result of my pregnancy – it just never went away! I may have taken 10 years to get rid of it, but you don’t have to wait that long! And if you’ve been battling to lose that post-pregnancy weight for years like I did, now’s your chance to lose it for good!
